Starwood Retail Partners to Promote "Shopping Local" Portfolio-wide Saturday, December 3
CHICAGO (December 1, 2016) - Think that regional and super-regional malls are dominated just by national chains? Think again.
On Saturday, December 3, 2016, Starwood Retail Partners will encourage its visitors to "go local at the mall" by patronizing the many local businesses that occupy the stores, restaurants, retail merchandising units and kiosks at its 30 centers.
"While everyone knows that our malls feature dominant national department stores and retailers including Macy's, JCPenney, Chico's, Pandora and more, nearly three
of every four of our specialty leasing tenants are entrepreneurs," says Chelsie Petereit, Vice President of Marketing at Starwood Retail Partners. "The mall is just as much a home to the local mom-and-pop retailer as any neighborhood, and we're excited to support these cart and kiosk operators during the holiday season."
Starwood Retail's local businesses range from children's apparel merchant Bow & Arrow to Merino's Seafood, both in their first mall stores at Capital Mall in Olympia, Wash., to acupuncture and reflexology services at Relax Magic in Franklin Park Mall in Toledo, Ohio, to Husker Headquarters, which offers University of Nebraska merchandise at Gateway Mall in Lincoln, Neb., to the "Unique Local Bazaar," which is home to 50 local businesses selling homemade gifts at Kitsap Mall, Silverdale, Wash. Other local offerings to be found at Starwood Retail Partners projects include a number of specialty food purveyors - and even a talent agency at Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond, Va.
"Today's entrepreneurs are the major chains and success stories of tomorrow," Petereit adds. "These retailers and service providers also offer unique products and gifts that will make a holiday special for the giver and the recipient."
