Barry Sternlicht, Chairman
Barry Sternlicht is Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Starwood Capital Group, the private investment firm he formed in 1991 focused on global real estate, hotel management, energy infrastructure and securities trading. Sternlicht is also Chairman of Starwood Property Trust, now the largest commercial mortgage REIT in the U.S. traded on the NYSE. Sternlicht is also Chairman of the Board of Societe´ du Louvre. For the past twenty-two years, he has structured investment transactions with an asset value of more than $40 billion. Starwood’s funds have invested in more than 18,000 apartment units, more than 1000 hotels, over 22 million square feet of office properties, 15 million square feet of retail and over 20,000 acres of land in residential subdivisions. Today the firm manages approximately $12 billion of investor capital on behalf of its high net worth and institutional partners. Starwood Capital Group employs approximately 225 associates at its headquarters in Greenwich, Connecticut, and other offices in Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, London, Mumbai, Sao Paolo, Paris and Luxembourg. Starwood’s family of products includes Starwood Energy Partners, focused on energy infrastructure investments, and Starwood Real Estate Securities hedge fund. Starwood also owns an interest in Troon Golf.
From 1995 through early 2005, Sternlicht was Chairman and CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., a company he founded in 1995. Starwood Hotels employed over 120,000 people and is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with more than 895 properties in 100 countries. Starwood is a fully integrated owner, operator and franchiser of hotels with nine brands, including: St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Sheraton, Westin, Meridien, and Four Points. Barry Sternlicht has been credited as a dynamic and innovative hotel leader, creating new products and programs with immediate global appeal. Sternlicht created W Hotels, perhaps the world’s most successful “boutique” brand, and built St. Regis Hotels into a brand.
In 2010, Sternlicht was named Executive of the Year and Investor of the Year by Commercial Property Executive. In 2005, Sternlicht was named America’s Best Lodging CEO by Institutional Investor magazine. Sternlicht is a member of the Interior Design Magazine Hall of Fame. He received the Preston Robert Tisch Distinguished Industry Leadership Award from New York University, the CEO Diversity Award by Diversity Best Practices/Business Women’s Network, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Travel Marketing Executives, the Hospitality Heritage Award from the American Hotel and Lodging Association, and the Marketer of the Year Award from Brandweek. Sternlicht’s humanitarian efforts have led to prestigious national honors such as JDRF’s Man of the Year, JDRF’s Living and Giving Award and JDRF’s Chairman’s Award.
Sternlicht is a trustee of his alma mater, Brown University. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Estée Lauder Companies, Restoration Hardware, Mammoth Mountain and TriPointe Homes. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Robin Hood and is on the boards of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), the Dreamland Film & Performing Arts Center, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s National Leadership Advocacy Program, and the Executive Advisory Board of Americans for the Arts. He is a member of the Real Estate Roundtable, the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, the World Presidents Organization, and the Urban Land Institute.
Barry Sternlicht received his BA, magna cum laude, with honors from Brown University. He later earned an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
Scott Wolstein, Chief Executive Officer
Scott Wolstein leads Starwood Retail Partners as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Wolstein has led Starwood Retail Partners since its inception. Under his leadership, the firm has grown to a well-regarded leader in the retail real estate industry with a portfolio valued in excess of seven billion dollars.
He previously served, since its inception in 1993, as Chairman and CEO of Developers Diversified Realty (DDR), a publicly traded REIT. Under Scott’s leadership, DDR grew into the world’s largest landlord of power centers and community centers, with ownership and management of nearly $20 billion of retail real estate assets comprising over 160 million square feet of GLA in the US, Puerto Rico and Brazil. DDR’s portfolio also included a dynamic group of regional malls, including three of the top five malls in Puerto Rico and a mall in Brazil that today is still the largest enclosed mall in South America. Mr. Wolstein was named Chairman Emeritus of DDR in 2011.
Prior to co-founding DDR, Mr. Wolstein served as an associate at the law firm of Thompson, Hine, & Flory, specializing in partnerships and joint ventures. He left the firm in 1981 to co-found the firm of Diversified Equities and the Wolstein Group a specialist in structuring and operating tax advantaged investments in real estate, cable television, and various equipment initiatives. In his role as principal of the Wolstein Group, Mr. Wolstein spearheaded the development of several large scale development projects in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, including the Flats East Bank development, the Barrington Golf Club Community, and the US Bank Building.
Wolstein has served on the Boards of ICSC, NAREIT, Real Estate Roundtable, Co-Chairman of H.E.L.P. Malawi, President: United Cerebral Palsy Cleveland, Chairman: State of Israel Bonds Of Northern Ohio, United Way Of Cleveland, Red Cross of Cleveland, Greater Cleveland Partnership, Case Western Reserve University, Hathaway Brown School for Girls, Great Lakes Theater Festival, Executive Committee of Zell Lurie Real Estate Center at the Wharton School, Cleveland Development Authority and Leadership Cleveland.
He has participated extensively with ULI, the World Economic Forum, and the Milken Institute. He was named CEO of the Year four times by the Realty Stock Review, a selection that is voted on by equity investors and analysts. Wolstein has also been recognized by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance receiving their 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Scott Ball, President and Chief Operating Officer
F. Scott Ball is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Chicago based Starwood Retail Partners (SRP). He directs all aspects of the company’s $6 billion operating platform comprised of regional malls and lifestyle centers throughout the United States. He has more than 25 years of real estate management and development experience in the commercial real estate industry, having guided the growth of retail portfolios of all sizes in the U.S. and abroad.
Prior to joining SRP, Scott served most recently as Senior Vice President, Retail at Oxford Properties Group where he led the team responsible for Oxford’s 9.5 million square foot Canadian retail portfolio, including all asset management, operations and leasing activities. Prior to that, he was CEO and partner for Blatteis & Schnur, a privately held development/ brokerage firm based in Los Angeles. He previously served as an Executive Vice President of Asset Management at The Mills and spent more than 20 years with The Rouse Company.
Scott is a member of the Board of Directors for SRP and is member of the International Council of Shopping Centers as well as a member of the Urban Land Institute, where he sits on the Commercial and Retail Development Council. Mr. Ball and his family reside in Chicago and Naples.
Laurie Paquette, Senior Vice President of Operations and Asset Management
Laurie Paquette, Senior Vice President of Operations and Asset Management is responsible for the real estate operations and property management of Starwood Retail Partners. Her responsibilities include strategic planning, budget approval and management, capital expenditures and maintenance, and oversight of third-party vendors.
Ms. Paquette has over 25 years of professional experience, most of which has been within the real estate sector. Prior to joining Starwood Retail Properties, Paquette was Vice President of Asset Management at General Growth Properties where she was responsible for nine million square feet of assets in Las Vegas and Hawaii.
Laurie holds a BA in Marketing and Management from Concordia University.
Edward Coury, Senior Vice President, Director of Leasing
Edward Coury, Senior Vice President, Director of Leasing is responsible for the management of Starwood Retail Partners’ leasing team. He has direct responsibility for all retail leasing including strategic planning for all property merchandising, approval of lease transactions, tenant allowance capital and supervision of third-party brokers.
Coury has more than 25 years of retail real estate experience on both the landlord and tenant sides of the industry. Prior to joining Starwood Retail Partners, he was Senior Vice President of Leasing and Construction for Charlotte Russe, with responsibility for their real estate portfolio of over 500 stores across the United States.
Coury holds a BS degree in Accounting from Villanova.
Rob Hense, Senior Vice President, Development
Rob Hense, Senior Vice President, Development will focus on the redevelopment of existing assets through all stages of development, starting with the concept through formal execution. In addition to managing assets, he will assist in the underwriting of potential acquisitions and negotiate with department stores and junior anchors.
Mr. Hense was the senior director of real estate and development at Apple, Inc. In this role he was in charge of all teams developing Apple’s retail presence and strategy in North America, South America, Australia and Japan. Mr. Hense has also served as the vice president of real estate and international development at Crate and Barrel and the vice president of development at Bally Total Fitness.
Rob holds a Juris Doctor from University of Kansas along with a BA in English.
Mark Brown, Vice President, Head of Technology
Mark Brown is the Head of Technology at Starwood Retail Partners. In this capacity he is responsible for the establishment of a robust and reliable technology infrastructure to support the growth of the company. Additionally, he plays a key role in promoting corporate efficiency and effectiveness through the establishment and continuous improvement of business processes and procedures.
Prior to joining Starwood, Mr. Brown served as the Chief Information Officer of General Growth Properties, where he participated in the Executive Committee. His career includes executive roles at Urban Retail Properties and Simon Property Group, as well as substantial consulting experience in the Commercial Real Estate Industry.
Mr. Brown received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and an MBA from the University of Indianapolis.
Megan Van Pelt, Vice President, Head of Human Resources
Megan Van Pelt, Vice President, Head of Human Resources is responsible for the human resources vision, direction and leadership of Starwood Retail Partners. Her responsibilities include human resources strategy, talent acquisition, management and employee development, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, internal communication, and compliance.
Mrs. Van Pelt has over 20 years of professional experience, having spent many of those years in both real estate and retail sectors. Prior to joining Starwood Retail Properties, Van Pelt was the Head of Human Resources for Kmart where she was responsible for leading all facets of human resources for Kmart’s 1,300 retail stores and over 100,000 employees across 49 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands.
Megan holds a BA in Management from Xavier University.
Kevin Halleran, Vice President of Accounting and Financial Reporting
Kevin Halleran is responsible for all of the accounting functions within the organization including financial reporting, general ledger accounting, lease administration, accounts receivable and payable, and financial planning and analysis.
Prior to joining Starwood Retail Partners, Mr. Halleran served as Vice President, Corporate Controller, of Rouse Properties Inc., a publicly traded retail REIT. He served in this role from the company’s initial formation and was responsible for corporate and property accounting within the organization along with SEC reporting. Prior to Rouse Mr. Halleran was a senior manager within KPMG’s real estate audit practice. He was responsible for serving a variety of large private equity real estate funds and publicly traded REIT clients.
Mr. Halleran received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from DePaul University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
